Background: The procedure involves removing only the part of the kidney containing the tumor while preserving the rest of the normal kidney tissue. The steps involved in the procedure include patient positioning and equipment check, creation of retroperitoneal space, placement of additional trocars, dissection of the renal hilum, clamping of renal artery, precise tumor localization by robotic ultrasound probe, meticulous kidney tumor removal, repair of kidney post-tumor excision is complete (renorrhaphy), unclamping to check for bleeding, and specimen retrieval through Airseal port ensuring minimal incision.

Methods: To improve the accuracy of the procedure, an ultrasound robotic probe can be used to precisely delineate the borders of the tumor within the kidney. The retroperitoneal approach to robotic retroperitoneal partial nephrectomy (rRPN) permits direct access to the renal hilum, no need for bowel mobilization, and excellent visualization of posteriorly located tumors. A video presentation with voice explanation can be used to show the steps involved in rRPN. The video can demonstrate the proper technique for each step and provide a visual aid for trainees to follow along with. This can help ensure that the technique is standardized and that trainees are performing the procedure correctly.

Results: In addition to the steps involved in rRPN, a technique to prevent leakage and bleeding after partial nephrectomy can be used. This is a common complication that can lead to infection. The technique involves the use of a hemostatic agent and a collagen patch to seal the renal defect. This can help prevent postoperative complications and improve patient outcomes.

Conclusions: Video presentation for step-by-step rRPN with ultrasound robotic probe is an effective way to train laparoscopic doctors in the urology department at Limerick University. The procedure can be divided into nine critical steps, and a video presentation with voice explanation can be used to help trainees learn the proper technique. The use of an ultrasound robotic probe can improve the accuracy of the procedure, and a technique to prevent leakage and bleeding after partial nephrectomy can be used to improve patient outcomes.
