Background: Haematuria is a common presentation of urology patients in A&E that might result from variety of urologic condition. Hence, high index of suspicious for malignancy drives the workup with the modalities including cystoscopic examination, CT urography (CTU) and urine cytology.

Methods: Hospital based Retrospective pilot study was conducted on patients present to A&E in UHL during 3 months time from August through October 2022, using the 3 modalities of investigation the study includes the results that is suggestive of positive malignancy versus negative ones.

Results: A total of 27 patients has been included age ranged between 47–90 years of age. Cystoscopy was done for all, it was positive in more than half of them, CTU was done in 90% of which almost half were positive, urine cytology was done in 30% of which only one was positive.

Conclusions: High index of suspicious for cancer is needed. Our results are keeping with performing the triad of workup of haematuria with cystoscopy, CTU and cytology for all patients with a high yield for the three of them. That contravene the European Association of Urology (EAU) guidelines on necessity for CTU. This is could be considered a pilot study for a future more comprehensive study of large cohorts of patients to criticize the yeiled of haematuria workup in the three diagnostic modalities.

Keywords: Haematuria workup; CT urography (CTU); cytology; bladder transitional cell carcinoma (TCC); upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC)
