AB128. SOH23ABS_097. Bladder lesion reporting on initial assessment in UHL 2022

Background: Cystoscopy is a simple, low-cost routine preoperative operation. It can observe the tumour site, size, shape, multiplicity, and gross appearance. At present, there are few literature summaries and analyses of tumors description under cystoscopy. Objective is to criticise application of Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) description criteria of bladder lesion.

Methods: Hospital based retrospective analytical study. Office cystoscopy reports done on elective basis in University Limerick Hospitals Group (ULHGs) namely Nenagh General hospital and Ennis General hospital from March 2021 through July 2022. Only cystoscopy reports with bladder lesion have been included, with no specific exclusion criteria.

Results: Hundreds of office cystoscopies were filtered to find reports with findings, 35 cystoscopy reports has been included. Nineteen different operators. A proportion of 42% of patients were new patients and the rest were known cases of bladder cancer under surveillance protocol. Around half of the cases no actual size, multiplicity or abnormal urothelium around.

Conclusions: Cystoscopists need to draw their attention to the importance of proper bladder tumour description at initial assessment. This study has disclosed an important part of patient care that needs continuous professional development (CPD).
