Background: Advances in systemic treatment for breast cancer have resulted in smaller tumour sizes at the time of surgery. Consequently, the need for accurate localisation of these tumours is essential. Currently, wire guided excision of impalpable breast lesions is the standard of care. Magseed is a novel approach whereby a magnetic pellet can be inserted into the tumour bed days before a procedure. Our institution began utilising the Magseed in January 2022. The purpose of this study is to assess patient QoL and satisfaction with Magseed localisation technique in our institution.

Methods: Patients were identified from theatre logbooks. Both malignant and benign cases were included. Patients were phoned and asked to complete the EORTC IN-PATSAT32 and EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaires. The PATSAT32 questionnaire assessed patient satisfaction with staff and facility. QLQ-C30 assessed QoL and symptomatology.

Results: Overall, 37 patients had a Magseed guided procedure. To date, 10 patients have been contacted. Initial findings from the PATSAT suggest exceptional satisfaction of patients with the service provided, in particular, staff were noted to be informative, caring and accommodating. Issues reported included access to parking. The QLQ-C30 noted that the majority of patients experienced no significant functional issues as a result of the Magseed. All patients were discharged within POD1. Phone consultations are ongoing.

Conclusions: Our institution has demonstrated very encouraging results following adoption of the Magseed. Further patients will need to be contacted to validate. Ultimately, we hope to compare these findings to a similar case-matched cohort of wire guided patients.
