Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the rates of postponement of emergency cases in urology in the Mid-West region of Ireland.

Methods: Emergency urology patients present more than 2% of the total patients coming to Accident & Emergency (A&E). it is a significant volume with more than third of the patients needing emergency urology intervention, time-lapse is supposed to be increasing after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Aim: Call for triaging proforma at the level of the emergency theatre.

Results: Retrospective, descriptive analytical, hospital based, patient centred cross sectional study. Data retrieved by single person from the emergency theatre logbook for dates of operations and also from the patient flow and discharge I-HUB system of the University Limerick Hospital Group (ULHG) for the dates of presentation to emergency department (ED) and the date of allocation to a bed (admission).

Conclusions: Two third of the patients wait for more than 2 days for emergency procedures after they have been allocated to a bed. The time has increased since 2019 with no increase in frequency of cases. Further triage at the level of the emergency theatre is to be adopted to decrease delay in emergency urology operations. Comparison between other department might develop a sound call for dedicating another emergency theatre room or to a lesser extent to increase the urology slots for urology emergencies.
