AB167. SOH22ABS188. Chasing the double J ureteral stents during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic

Background: We reviewed our prospectively collected data of patients who underwent ureteric stenting for various urological problems to assess how effective team data keeping in safe follow up of patients during the unprecedented time of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Methods: We prospectively collected the data of 183 patients who had ureteral double J (DJ) stent inserted during the covid period March 2020 till November 2021. We reminded the patient telephonically one week before the date of removal or change of DJ ureteral stent apart from giving them DJ stent card details as per the protocol of our hospital.

Results: A total of 183 patients underwent DJ ureteral stenting by single consultant service at our university hospital during 18 months period. Of these 183, 139 patients were stented post intervention for ureteric calculi, 21 patients for pelvic-ureteric junction obstruction (PUJO), 12 patients for urosepsis due to obstructed ureter, four patients with muscle invasive bladder tumour, four has long term DJ stents, two perioperative patients during surgical or gynaecological procedures and one patient with ureteric transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). The majority of the stents were removed within 4–6 weeks. We did not miss any ureteral stent case during our follow up period.

Conclusions: Forgotten ureteral stent is a nightmare both for the patient as well as for the urologist. Maintaining stent register during covid or non-covid time helps in decreasing incidence of forgotten DJ stent and reduces strain on resources.
