AB109. SOH26AB_0213. Is it time to redefine what exactly a negative appendicectomy is?—a study of histopathological negative appendicectomy specimens and identifying non-inflammatory pathologies
Abstract
Acute appendicitis is a common surgical emergency, yet many appendicectomy specimens show non-inflammatory abnormalities such as faecoliths, Enterobius vermicularis, or neoplasms. These cases are often grouped with normal findings and labelled “negative appendicectomies”, despite containing clinically relevant pathology. A more accurate system is needed to distinguish true negative specimens from non-inflammatory abnormalities. This study aimed to generate an improved system.
