abstract = {Type and screen (T&S) testing is routinely performed prior to appendectomy to ensure availability of compatible blood in the event of haemorrhage. However, appendectomy is typically associated with minimal blood loss, and transfusion rates are known to be extremely low. Unnecessary T&S testing may increase laboratory workload, delay theatre flow, and incur avoidable costs. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical necessity of routine T&S testing in patients undergoing appendectomy.},
